Dear Families of Trivium East Scholars,
What a whirlwind these past few weeks have been! Our Trivium East Faculty have been busy preparing to serve you in new ways, and I know that I speak for our whole staff when I say we love you and miss you. On my music blog, I will be adding music resources for you and your scholars to explore, in case music is an important point of interest and expression for them. If you or your scholars have any questions about music resources, or anything at all you want to share with me, I would love to hear from you! Please peruse the tabs on my blog- the grade level tabs will have recordings of our spring 2020 concert songs that we've started working on. This will be an opportunity for your student to keep singing and working on what we've started this semester, but mostly I hope it is a joyful musical connection. I also have a tab with online resources. There are some pretty amazing resources out there that are free and accessible in this time when we need music. For example, the Berlin Philharmonic has made its archive of concert videos free to access. Many opera companies have as well. Take Care and Be Well, Ms. Sassaman Music Teacher, Grades 2-5, Archway Trivium East Please join us for our special Choir Night at Case Field, where our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will be singing the National Anthem on Chase Field before the game! Sign up is here. Students who are participating will also need a ticket. When you purchase tickets, you will receive a confirmation email. A few weeks before the event, we will send your tickets home with your scholar. I will email you when it's time for this. Please email Ms. Sassaman at [email protected] if you have questions. See you at the game! archwaytriviumeast.configio.com/pd/144/diamondbacks-national-anthem-game-2020?returncom=productlist&source=search Dear Parents of Trivium East Scholars,
Please save the date for our spring concerts! We are eagerly preparing, and can't wait to share our songs with you. Please remember that choir concerts are required events. If you believe your scholar must miss the concert, please reach out to me with an email so that we can determine if their absence can be excused with an alternate assignment. Please see the Concert Dress Code tab on my blog for dress code info. Ms. Sassaman Dear Trivium East Families,
I am so excited to announce that on the evening of April 14th, Trivium East will have our very own choir night at the Diamondbacks! Last year we joined many choirs in singing the National Anthem on Chase Field and it was a huge success. This year, we will be the only choir on Chase Field singing the National Anthem before the game! The DBacks will be playing Pittsburgh this evening. It will be a no homework night for all participants. This event is not part of any club- students will practice the National Anthem in their music classes. This event will be open to all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students to sing on the field- family and friends may purchase tickets to attend. Participants also need tickets. We will have a discounted rate of $26 per ticket. We will send out details soon regarding ticket sales (you'll buy the tickets through us so that you get the special rate and so that we all sit together), and regarding a timeline. This is not a required event. In the meantime, Save the Date! We hope to see you there! Ms. Sassaman Dear Parents of Trivium East Scholars,
I am very excited to share with you a new club I will be leading this spring- Athenian Choir! This choir will meet before school on Tuesdays from 6:55am to 7:35am. It is open for students in grades 3-5. If your scholar loves singing, I encourage you to consider this club. We will delve into some exciting choir music, and our efforts will culminate in a final performance during our spring concert week. Athenian Choir will run from January 21 to May 5. I encourage you to check out our many wonderful clubs offered this semester. Please let me know if you have any questions. archwaytriviumeast.greatheartsamerica.org/academy-life/co-curricular-programs/ Ms. Sassaman Dear Parents of Trivium East Scholars,
We have had a wonderful start to our year in music. We've experienced music through singing, movement, and instruments, worked on music literacy, learned about our composers of the month (who have been Antonio Vivaldi and Hildegard von Bingen), worked on learning our concert songs, and attended a wonderful concert by the Phoenix Symphony string ensemble. In this post I'd like to fill you in about our Winter Concerts and also invite you to attend an optional conference with me during our conference days. Each school year at Trivium East, we have a Winter Concert in December and a Spring Concert in May. These concerts are well supported by our families as well as by our staff. Concert attendance and participation is a required event for scholars, and accounts for 20% of each scholar's grade in music. If you believe you may have an excusable reason for non attendance, please send me an email so that I may work with our headmaster in deciding whether it will count as excused. Excused absences may be made up through alternate assignments. Our concerts do have a dress code. Please look in your family hand book or on my concert dress code tab on my blog for details so that you are prepared with attire for your scholars. It has been such a joy to welcome back our scholars this week. We have a fun and engaging year ahead of us in music class! We will be singing, moving, creating, and playing instruments as we form musical communities both as classes and as an entire school. We will have more guest performances this year- one concert in the fall semester, and one concert in the spring semester- our 4th graders will be visiting the Musical Instrument Museum this year, and we will have more wonderful music clubs. Stay tuned for more details about each of these events! Fall Semester Clubs: registration for fall semester clubs is now open! We have many wonderful clubs to offer this year, including some of our favorite music and drama clubs. This year, Mr. LaFave will be teaching ukulele club for grades 2-5 and Mrs. MacLeod will be teaching drama for grades 3-5. I will be starting a new percussion club for grades 3-5 called Ictus! Ictus is a Latin word for beat that is sometimes used in music. We will play xylophones, glockenspiels, and conga drums, sing, and move during this club. We will share our music in a final performance in December. Here is a link for club sign up. https://archwaytriviumeast.configio.com I look forward to much music making with our scholars this year. Sincerely, Ms. Sassaman Music Teacher, Grades 2-5, Archway Trivium East Dear Parents of Trivium East Scholars,

We are delighted to welcome the Arizona Opera to our school next Thursday. They will be performing an abridged version of Mozart's Magic Flute! Music clubs are happily underway as well- our ukulele artists are strumming away and learning new chords, k-2 drama is exploring instruments and also beginning to act out Beatrix Potter stories, and 3-5 drama is preparing a production of a Hans Christian Anderson tale The Wise Man's Stone which we have renamed the Stone of Wisdom. It has been a busy and wonderful last few weeks for music events at Trivium East! From each grade level, K-5, our scholars sang so beautifully for our winter concerts. We are grateful for your support of and participation with our winter concerts- it is a true highlight for our musical development. This past week, concerts continued as Paradise Winds, a professional reed quintet, visited our school. We also had three club performances that highlighted the musical talents and efforts of our young scholars. Ukulele Club presented a concert with highlights including Shenandoah, Peace Like a River, and Loch Lamond. Our Drama Club Grades 3-5 worked tirelessly this semester to present our very own interpretation of Snowdrop, which is the Brothers Grimm story for Snow White. A big congratulations to the scholars in drama club and set design for truly owning this show and for your extra rehearsals and extra time. The performance was beautiful. To close out the week last week, our Drama Club Grades K-2 presented a singing version of The Musicians of Bremen. The joy and excitement of these young scholars was infectious as we presented our first ever entirely K-2 Drama production. Singing... Music... Acting... these mediums of expression are wonderful ways to explore the depths of emotion, expression, and humanity. It can be hard work at times- for both students and teachers. In the end, I believe it changes us for the better and I am already looking forward to our spring semester concert preparation and club performances. I've received a few questions about when signups will be available for the spring semester clubs which start in January. When we get back from break, check the Athenian Echo, and also emails from me, as both sources will announce when these open. Thank you, and have a wonderful break. Ms. Sassaman |
